Program Description:

Located in the wonderful coastal city of Portland, Maine Medical Center’s Med-Peds residency program offers comprehensive training in two outstanding departments. As a refugee resettlement community, MMC has a diverse patient population. In July 2018, we will increase from 3 interns to our first class of 4 residents per year! We have an excellent combined Med-Peds resident clinic (with Med-Peds preceptors) on site and provide additional opportunities for training in primary care with rural, refugee/immigrant and homeless populations during training. Residents have opportunities to work with Med-Peds faculty during inpatient and a variety of sub-specialty rotations as well as outstanding categorical faculty. Our residents enjoy both excellent training and a great place to live and enjoy life outside of work.

Med-Peds Primary Care Elective for 4th Year Medical Students:

Students will work with internal medicine-pediatric trained physicians in a primary care practice situated in the lakes region of Windham, Maine.  The majority of the experience will be based in this suburban ambulatory care setting with the option of doing newborn nursery rounds at MMC.  Students will also have the opportunity to attend educational lectures at MMC and meet the MMC med-peds residents and the Program Director.

Applications will be accepted April 1st through June 15th each year for electives taking place July through December.  Medical students must apply through VSAS.  For more information about the rotation, please contact Kelly Barnes at
