In 2015, NMPRA introduced several Director positions on the governing Executive Board which play a critical role in NMPRA leadership. These directorships fill identified needs in specific areas that the NMPRA Board cannot take on alone without assistance from dedicated representatives. Since their creation, these Board positions have increased availability for residents to get involved and have expanded the scope of what NMPRA is able to accomplish on a national level. The Director roles have been better defined, as well as expanded, over the last several years and we are excited to continue developing these positions with each passing year!

xpectations of each role are outlined below; however, these positions still retain much room for flexibility. We hope that, if selected, you will help continue to work with us in developing and shaping these positions with the unified goal of continuing to expand NMPRA’s outreach and services to the Med-Peds community. Please feel free to contact the current residents holding each position at the emails listed below with any questions or concerns.

Directors must be current Med-Peds residents in good standing. Each Director will be expected to be available once monthly for a group conference call (of approximately 1 hour in duration) as well as attend the National Conference in person, tentatively scheduled for September 28-29, 2024 in Orlando, FL. 
Of note, this email relates specifically to our Director positions. The call for applications to our Executive Board positions (President, Treasurer, etc.) will be sent out via the NMPRA listserv in late April 2024.

Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee ([email protected]):

Please note that this application cycle is for a Director-Elect position in 2024-2025 with formal duties as Director beginning 2025-2026

  • Oversee all actions of the DEI subcommittee.
  • Ensure up-to-date DEI information on the NMPRA website.
  • Help liaisons plan and execute DEI events.
  • Coordinate Mentor-Mentee relationships with MPPDA.
  • Maintain a directory/database of URM Med-Peds physicians.
  • Help organize the NMPRA DEI Summer Webinar.

Director of Medical Student Interest Groups/Recruitment ([email protected]):

Please note that for this position, we will require in the PD Letter of Recommendation requirement that the PD is willing to allow for schedule changes to accommodate recruitment webinar series host responsibilities

  • Work with the medical student subcommittee and help lead this group.
  • Assist in forming new medical student interest groups at medical schools without Med-Peds programs.
  • Update information for medical students on the website, the Med-Peds interest group presentation, and Med-Peds brochure.
  • Assist in connecting students by region and providing service and networking opportunities for them.
  • Assist in the organization and execution of the Med-Peds Informational Webinar Series.

Director of Health Policy and Advocacy ([email protected]):

  • Create advocacy opportunities for residents on a national and regional level by helping coordinate advocacy education at NMPRA meetings and distributing information about becoming involved in legislation.
  • Serve as the NMPRA representative on issues that affect Med-Peds physicians and creates policies/statements when resident input is needed (e.g. opinion statement regarding the Pediatric Hospitalist Medicine Fellowship, overview on MOCs, ensuring that Med-Peds is included as a primary care specialty).

Director of Community Service and Outreach ([email protected]):

  • Assist in connecting residents with opportunities projects for service locally, nationally, and internationally (e.g. health fairs, volunteer clinics, Physician Health & Wellness at AAP).
  • Organize and work the Physician Health and Wellness booth at the annual AAP meeting.
  • Organize the annual NMPRA Community Service Week.

Director of Professional Advancement ([email protected]):

  • Work with NMPRA and faculty mentors to create new resources for residents (e.g. jobs guide, CV/cover letter advice, etc.).
  • Create a yearly calendar of deadlines for academic projects and ideally form partnerships with ACP, AAP, SGIM, and PAS with NMPRA representation at these meetings.
  • Assist in seeking out physicians interested in mentoring residents and connecting these 2 groups.
  • Help coordinate and execute webinars related to professional advancement opportunities.

Webmaster ([email protected]):

  • Update the website with news, conferences, etc.
  • Upload email addresses to the master database for campaigns.

Of note, some positions will have a director officer already in the position this year re-applying for an additional term this upcoming academic year. Those positions are:  Director of Community Service and Outreach, Director of Health Policy and Advocacy, and Webmaster. We still welcome applications from anyone wanting to pursue any of these positions.
